Questions and the responses

  1. What is hard water?
The water supplied by your local water company is, in most countries, perfectly potable. The volume of
calcium present in a given water supply may vary greatly dependling on the water's origin. Hard water is
generally defined as water with a high calcium content.

In Germany, for example, hardness levels are zoned as follows:

» soft = less than 1.5 millimol calcium carbonate per liter
    (German = 8.4 °dH)

» medium = 1.5 to 2.5 millimol calcium carbonate per liter
    (German = 8.4 to 14 °dH)

» hard = more than 2.5 millimol calcium carbonate per liter
    (German = more than 14 °dH

  2. Why is hard water usage harmfull to the environment?
The amount of washing powders, shampoos, shower gells soap and other cleaning agents used in hard water areas can be as much as double the amount required in soft water zones. Lime-scale build up on bathroom tiles, taps and domestic appliances can only be removed using veray aggressive cleaning agents. All of these materials end up as an added environmental burden in the waste water system. Hard water usage also involves higher energy costs with each millimeter of limescale deposit adding a further 10% to the amount of energy required to perform any given function within the system. Less lime-scale means less energy production which, in turn, means less emissions.

  3. What can I do to counteract the effects of hard water?
The optimal solution is the use of io-exchange based softening units. These units regulate the level of hardness in your water supply at the ideal mark of just under 1.5 Millimol per liter.
We also offer a range of calcium stabilizers, plase contact us directly for more details.

  4. What advantages does the use of softened water have to offer me?
    In your home:
    »
softened water brings back the shine to tired bathrooms and kitchens
» softened water blocks lime-scale build up on tiels, fixture and fittings
» using softened water can reduce the time spent cleaning
» using softened water preserves the aroma of your tea and coffee

    For your laundry:
» keeps clothes looking better longer
    » keeps whites looking whiter
» keeps yur laundry feeling soft to the touch
    » makes ironing easier

    For your personal hygiene:
» gives you the sensation of more comfort
» brings the shine back to dull hair
» gives you that 'soft skinn' feeling after a bath
» more effective use of body cleansers

    For your househoild appliances:
» helps maximize on your unit's working life
» protects heating units from Lime-scale build up
» increases the operating efficiency of warm water systems
    » keeps energy costs lower

    For your wallet:
» cuts down on usage of soap powder and domestic cleaning agents
» requires less soap and shampoo saving on your shoping bills

  5. Doesn't water softening also lead to a loss in valuable minerals and trace substances in the water supply?
JUDO units generally rgulate the total water hardness to just under 1.5 Millimol per liter. This means that the water used still retains a certain level of residual hardness. At this level each liter of water still contains approx. 60 milligrammes of calcium and sufficient volumes of minerals and trace elements. The total volumes of minerals contained in the water supply, therfore, remained unchanged.

  6. Is just a softener enough?
In order to protect your installation from particle contmination JUDO strongly recommends the use of a water particle filter installed in front of the softening unit. In areas subject to high corrosion levels, a dosing unit may be installed after the softener to line the piping and stabilize the incoming water supply.

  7. What damage can corrosion really cause?
The worst case scenario would be burst pipes with all the direct and collateral damage that can lead to. Just as agrovating and expensive to deal with are blockages to pipes, valves and taps. Rusty pipes and even rust on domestic appliances are possible hazard areas here too. Pitting is another danger possibility.

  8. How do I go about geting the right corrosion protection for my installation?
All JUDO filters are engineered to State-of-the-art German technology standards. In combination with effective mineral dosing, the use of JUDO systems may even lead to a stabilization of corrossion in systems already badly affected.

  9. Which types of chemicals are used in JUDO dosing units?
Short answer: none!  JUDO dosinging systems use minerals such as phosphates which are food grade product and form a part of the human physical make up. WHO standards for drinking water allow up to 5 milligrams phosphates per liter.

  10. How accurate do JUDO dosing systems operate?
All JUDO products are subject to rigid testing before leaving our plant for installation in your system. Dosing units are tested in accordance with the German DIN 19635 norm which is one of the strictest in the world for operational efficiency. All materials dosed must be foos quality and meet WHO standards.
